The popularity of Chinese cars is growing every year, in fact, as is their number. If a few years ago the quality of cars from the Middle Kingdom left much to be desired, now many models are not inferior to European counterparts. Not so long ago, representatives of Geely announced the start of sales of the new cross-hatchback Emgrand GS. To say that a completely new car will be too loud, since an updated model has already been presented at home. In Russia, the novelty is also known under the name Geely Emgrand Cross, since the clearance is increased and is not standard for many hatchbacks.

Officially, the Geely Emgrand GS cross-hatchback was presented in 2016, and almost immediately the car appeared on the local market. Despite such a gap in time, the Geely hatchback still made it to Russia and officially started selling. The buyer in the Russian Federation is offered two basic configurations, which differ from each other in technical characteristics, security systems and comfort. Under the hood of the "new" Geely Emgrand GS there is only one 1.8-liter gasoline engine. In a pair, there is a 6-speed mechanic or a robotic gearbox, with the transmission of torque to the front axle.

Speaking of the appearance of a Chinese car, you shouldn't just drop everything and leave. For many, it was an ugly exterior, poor interior and meager technical specifications, but this does not apply to the new Geely Emgrand GS hatchback. Despite its origin, the novelty will surprise you with an excellent combination of details, as well as European design in general. There is an explanation for this and it is understandable, after Geely in the literal sense of the word bought the Volvo company, they began to use developments and existing models, changing the name and individual details, thereby giving uniqueness.

The front end of the new Geely Emgrand GS hatchback with cross-country ability is distinguished by a small radiator grille, with a mesh insert and a thin chrome trim. The front bumper looks no less attractive, the central part was taken away under an additional radiator grill, and the side parts were occupied by rectangular air ducts.

Most of all European design to the new Geely Emgrand GS is given by optics. The lower part was decorated with cutouts, thereby making a sharp part to the radiator grill, and L-shaped LED daytime running lights were added to the optics themselves from above. In most cases, halogen lamps will serve as the basis for optics, and only for a separate surcharge in the top-end configuration, you can install fully LED optics.

The last two front end parts of the Emgrand GS 2018 are the hood and windshield. The hatchback hood has received a raised center section and slight bends on the side. Thus, giving the new product a more evil look. As for the windshield, it is tilted backwards, thereby reducing aerodynamic drag and improving the overall appearance of the car.

From the side, the new Geely Emgrand GS hatchback resembles something between a crossover and a hatchback. Justifies this lack of all-wheel drive and the presence of a fifth door at the back, while the clearance is too high in comparison with other models of the company or competitors. I want to say right away that Volvo's developments have significantly improved Geely's design. Ideal ratio of the size of wheels and body, minimum chrome parts and soft lines along the length of the body.

We can say that there is nothing superfluous in the new Geely Emgrand GS. One drawback is the black glossy door linings, which will get dirty and scratched very quickly. The designers placed the door handles practically on the same level, which is very convenient and attractive. Another plus is that by closing the doors, they close the thresholds, which means that the thresholds will be clean and at the time of landing there will be a minimum chance of getting dirty.

As for the side mirrors, they were also redesigned, located on the door panels, and not in the corner of the front windows. The standard set includes an electric adjustment drive, automatic folding, LED repeaters of turns and heating. The color of the body of the new hatchback has become no less important, depending on the country of delivery, the shades can be bright or restrained. Despite such improvements, there are also disadvantages that for some reason were not taken into account.

The rear bumper turned out to be large, respectively, the trunk lid is smaller in size. This is a huge disadvantage in the case of loading purchases or oversized cargo, since there is a large step in the trunk. The central part of the bumper was taken under license plates and a pair of oblong foglights. Finally, a couple of exhaust tips. The first opinion they are fake, but in fact they are real, only the supply of exhaust gases is not always evenly distributed.

The last Geely Emrgand GS exterior detail worth considering is the roof. Even this part of the body, the designers did not leave aside. Depending on the configuration of the hatchback and the wishes of the buyer, the roof can be solid, with an electric sunroof or panoramic. According to the standard, the side part is decorated with a pair of roof rails for attaching an additional trunk, and the back part is decorated with a small antenna in the form of a shark fin.

I would like to say that the opinion about the poor assembly and ugly design of Chinese cars is gradually going backwards. Manufacturers do their best to attract buyers, present new models and attract the most famous engineers and designers. The Geely company is in full swing using the developments of Volvo, thanks to which it has received an influx of potential buyers.

The salon of the new Geely Emgrand GS cross-hatchback turned out to be no worse than the exterior. We can say that it fully complies with modern requirements and standards. Starting from the basic configuration, the central part of the panel is occupied by the 8 ″ touchscreen display of the multimedia system. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay served as the basis for multimedia, thanks to which you can synchronize gadgets, display information from your phone on the central display or display navigation maps. Above the display is a pair of air ducts, under the display is a climate control panel with a small monochrome display.

The hatchback's central tunnel is simple and modern. The central part was taken under the transmission lever, and on the sides were placed buttons for security systems, as well as an electromechanical handbrake. With additions, you can note a pair of cup holders behind a hidden curtain, an armrest and a set of outlets for recharging.

Next in line is the Geely Emgrand GS salon, the front seats are not to say that they are the most modern and sporty. Nevertheless, they got good lateral support, a high back and a comfortable fit. Adjustment of the front seats depends on the configuration, it can be mechanical or electrical. The second row of seats is designed for three seats as standard. If necessary, it can be folded in a 60/40 ratio, thereby increasing the luggage compartment.As for the interior trim of the Emgrand GS, there is little choice. The buyer is offered to choose between fabric upholstery or imitation leather.Available in colors black, brown, beige, burgundy or a combination. Additionally, you can choose inserts around the perimeter of the interior, made of plastic like carbon, polished aluminum or wood. The standard set offers a black gloss, but in the first days dust and small scratches will be visible on it.

Finally, consider the driver's seat of the Geely Emgrand GS hatchback. The dashboard turned out to be classic, round, analog speedometer and tachometer, plus a color display of the on-board computer in the center. In fact, the display of the bortovik displays the main characteristics of the car, the state of the engine and security systems. Unfortunately, it will not work to display navigation maps and other information from multimedia.

The hatchback's steering wheel is not particularly different from other Geely models, slightly flattened at the bottom, with a chrome insert and leather upholstery. The central part is occupied by the not yet updated, multi-colored emblem of the company, the side spokes were taken away under the function buttons. The steering wheel can be adjusted using a manual drive in height and depth. The interior of the new Geely Emgrand GS 2018 hatchback remains a pleasant experience, despite the fact that it is made in China. Modern systems are available to the buyer, from multimedia to comfort systems.

Despite the modern appearance and good interior, the technical characteristics of the Geely Emgrand GS hatchback remained Chinese. The buyer in Russia was offered a choice of only one gasoline engine with a volume of 1.8 liters and surprisingly two types of transmission, mechanical and robotic. The drive of the novelty is only front, despite the high ground clearance.

Nevertheless, at home in the Middle Kingdom, another L4 gasoline unit with a volume of 1.3 liters is available. A mechanic or a robot is also paired with such an engine.

As you can see, the torque of the 1.3-liter unit is more, but its power is less than in the 1.8-liter engine. Depending on the wishes of the buyer, a mechanical or robotic transmission can be installed in a pair.

The suspension of the Chinese hatchback is semi-independent, the classic independent MacPherson system is installed in front, and a semi-independent suspension with a torsion bar is installed at the rear. For the comfort of the driver, the manufacturer has installed an electric power steering, which is not always found in European premium cars.

In addition to the configurations of the Geely Emgrand GS with internal combustion engines, a hybrid PHEV model is offered in the homeland of the car. Under the hood of such a model, a gasoline unit with a volume of 1.0 liters and a capacity of 90 horses is installed. The pair includes an electric motor with a power of 55 hp. This complete set will definitely not be brought to Russia, similarly, as there are no plans to supply the updated Emgrand GS model.

Officially, the first generation of the Geely Emgrand GS hatchback was presented back in 2016, but it only recently reached Russia. As already mentioned, only one 1.8-liter gasoline engine is available in Russia. In total, there were 3 basic configurations to choose from.

Among themselves, the configurations of the Geely Emgrand GS 2016-2018 differ in the transmission and functional stuffing, otherwise there are no differences in technical characteristics. The buyer can also choose additional security systems, with the exception of the basic configuration. Most of them are tied to a robotic transmission. That is why there is no particular choice in the basic Emgrand configuration.

Well, there is a positive opinion about the new Chinese hatchback Geely Emgrand GS. The manufacturer is trying in every possible way to get away from the accepted principle that Chinese cars are not the best.
