It just so happened that the cars of the Japanese brand Acura, which is a luxury division of the Honda auto concern, are not in great demand in Russia. That is why the release of the updated Acura ILX sports sedan passed by most of the domestic consumers.
At first glance, this seems logical, since the previous generation of the sedan was frankly boring and not interesting, but the Acura management decided to radically reconsider their vision of the model. As a result, the company has invested heavily in the development of new designs, focusing on a youth audience looking for a premium car with the best price-performance ratio.
And, judging by the available reviews from critics and car enthusiasts, the rate was right and the car has every chance of becoming one of the most successful cars in the “affordable” premium class.
Recall that the first concept version of the ILX model was presented in 2011, and a year later the car was put on the conveyor. The car was based on the ninth generation Honda Civic, which is in great demand not only in America and Europe, but also in the domestic market.
The 2016 Acura ILX premiered in 2014 at the annual Los Angeles auto show. Running a little ahead of myself, I would like to note that the "Akurovites" have done a tremendous job, as a result of which they managed to make a truly luxurious, dynamic, stylish and, most importantly, relatively affordable premium sports sedan.
Exterior Acura ILX
As noted earlier, the designers have significantly redesigned the exterior of the updated Acura ILX, where the bulk of the changes fell on the front of the car. So, the front of the car received a massive front bumper with three stylish air intakes and built-in fog lights, a more aggressive radiator grill with the company logo in the center, as well as updated head light optics supported by the proprietary Jewel Eye technology.
The profile of the car is distinguished by the presence of large wheel arches, original alloy wheels and a sloping roof line that smoothly flows into the fiery stern. The changes did not pass by the rear of the sedan, where retouched parking lights appeared, as well as a large rear bumper with a stylish diffuser pattern.
In addition, the company offered an exclusive tuning package A-SPEC, represented by a small spoiler, special sports sill covers, modified foglights and R18 wheels.
Post-styling Acura ILX have the following overall characteristics:

ILX sports sedan interior
The previous generation of Acura ILX was remembered for the rather original architecture of the front panel, as well as high-quality finishing materials. The new generation ILX has got a slightly modernized interior, as well as a significantly expanded list of available interior trim options, which opened up new possibilities for personalization.
As before, a stylish three-spoke steering wheel is located in front of the driver, with which you can control not only the multimedia and navigation system, but also the indicators of the on-board computer.
An informative dashboard remained in place, with two large dials of a tachometer and a speedometer, for reading information from which even a cursory glance is enough.
Particularly noteworthy is the updated infotainment system, as well as the navigation system located in the central part of the dashboard, which are represented by a 7-inch touchscreen and an eight-inch display, respectively (Premium and Tech Plus trim levels). Just below them is the original unit responsible for controlling the microclimate in the cabin.
The front seats are finished with high-quality leather and have excellent ergonomics with pronounced lateral and lumbar support. Thanks to a wide range of seat adjustments, a person of any size can easily be accommodated behind the wheel of a car. Between the front row seats is a small armrest, which is also trimmed with leather.
The second row of seats is profiled for two riders, but if necessary, the third passenger can easily sit down here.
The volume of the trunk, in comparison with its predecessor, has not changed and is 348 liters, in the underground of which there is a repair kit and a stowaway.
It should be noted that the car received better sound insulation, which was achieved thanks to the use of thicker glasses, better sound-absorbing materials and the installation of an innovative noise-canceling Noise Control system.
In general, the interior of the new Acura ILX leaves a pleasant impression not only with its architecture and ergonomics, but also with high-quality finishing materials, including genuine leather and soft plastic.
Specifications Acura ILX 2016
Under the hood of the updated Acura ILX there is a new 2.4-liter 201-horsepower gasoline engine of the Earth Dreams line, borrowed from the "big brother" - the TLX model.
Recall that earlier the line of engines was represented by 2 and 2.4-liter "petrol engines" with a capacity of 150 and 210 hp, as well as a hybrid of a gasoline and an electric motor, developing 111 "horses".
The engine of the novelty is paired with a modern 8-speed automatic transmission, which is equipped with a dual-clutch system for clearer and faster shifting.
In the standard version, the sedan is equipped with front-wheel drive, while optionally the buyer can install a smart all-wheel drive system, which positively affects the handling and behavior of the car when driving at high speeds.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 takes about 7.4 seconds, which is a full 2.5 seconds. better than its predecessor, while the maximum possible speed is 225 km / h. Fuel consumption in mixed mode is 8.1 l / 100 km, and when driving on the highway, the car is capable of keeping within 6.5 l / 100 km, which is a very good indicator for such a dynamic car.
In addition to a redesigned engine and transmission, the new Acura ILX has a 12% stiffer body, reinforced subframes, improved stabilizers, and re-tuned steering. The suspension of the car is moderately stiff and easily copes with both large and small irregularities, while in order to punch it to the limiter, the driver will have to try hard.
The curb weight of the sports sedan is 1421 kg, which practically corresponds to the weight of the main competitors in the person of the Audi A3 and Mercedes CLA-class.
Safety
Since the Acura ILX is a premium car representative, the manufacturer has equipped it with a large number of active and passive safety systems, including:
- Adaptive cruise control;
- Rear view camera;
- A system that controls and holds the car within the road markings and lane;
- Emergency slowdown and blind spot monitoring system;
- Front and side airbags;
- Advanced anti-lock and stabilization system;
- The system responsible for the rational distribution of braking forces;
- Three-point seat belts and anchorages and ISOFIX anchorages.
Despite its relatively recent appearance on the market, the car has already passed the EuroNCAP crash tests, where it received the maximum 5 stars, which means that, despite its sporty character and appearance, the car can easily function as a car for the whole family.
Options and price of Acura ILX 2016
The 2016 Acura ILX, in contrast to the pre-styling version, which was presented in only three trim levels, received as many as six performance options. The price of the basic version of the sports sedan starts at $ 27.9 thousand (1.7 million rubles), for this money the buyer receives:
- 2.4-liter 201-horsepower engine;
- Front-wheel drive and automatic 8-speed gearbox;

- Acura Link system with Bluetooth support;

The top-of-the-line Tech Plus, the price of which is at around 32.9 thousand dollars (2.03 million rubles), offers a wider list of equipment, including:

- AcuraWatch Plus Package, which includes a frontal collision avoidance system and other advanced safety systems;
- Perforated leather seats;
- Light alloy wheels R18;
- Aluminum pedal pads;

The manufacturer also offers a large number of interior trim variations, as well as a number of additional optional equipment that makes it even more comfortable to be in the car.
Conclusion
The post-styled Acura ILX pleases not only with a more interesting exterior design and a rich level of equipment, but also with a fairly democratic price tag, which is one of the key advantages of the model in its class.
