Since 2001, Renault has been exhibiting its cars at the annual Car of the Year in Ukraine competition and continues to be in the top five among the most popular brands. Since 2012, the Renault brand has been at the forefront of sales, sharing first place with its traditional rival Volkswagen. What modifications of the French automobile brand are most popular in Ukraine?

1. Renault Duster

The model is considered the bestseller of 2018 and the best compact crossover in Ukraine. The debut of the model took place in 2010; in eight years, more than 15 thousand Ukrainians acquired Duster.

In 2018, 3,000 models were sold through official dealer networks; the start of sales of the new generation crossover was scheduled for the first half of 2019.

For the European market, "Duster" (this is how the name is translated) was introduced in 2009, although the Dacia Duster concept has been produced since 2008. By 2014, the millionth copy of the crossover was produced, which by this time had already managed to conquer the market of Eastern and Western Europe.

The Duster concept is based on the Nissan Juke platform, which has been modified to accommodate new axles. The car is made for four-wheel drive and front-wheel drive with steel crankcase protection.

For Ukrainian roads, Duster turned out to be the best crossover due to its ground clearance (minimum 21 cm) and short overhangs.

The first restyling took place in 2013. The power unit was modernized, the front panel was re-equipped. The price of the car is significantly lower than that of similar European SUVs, which makes Duster even more in demand.

2. Renault Logan

Renault Logan occupies a leading position in popularity among Ukrainian motorists. Logan is a worthy replacement for Lada for the price, not to mention the quality. This is a comfortable car that was developed for the Eastern European market. The most popular is the Logan sedan, the price of which has been holding since the release of the model at around 5,000 euros.

For the first time, the Renault Logan sedan was presented in 2004; since 2014, the second generation has been produced in Togliatti at the AvtoVAZ plant.

An interesting fact - it is the Russian assembly of Logan that takes the first place among Ukrainian consumers. (more than 48% of all Renault units sold are collected in Togliatti).

In 2018, Logan in the station wagon and sedan has undergone another upgrade. This is especially noticeable when comparing the exterior of Renault 2018 with its predecessor.

The radiator grille received a honeycomb design, the bumpers were changed, the headlights have three sections. The interior of the cabin and the media equipment have changed, a large amount of plastic imitating natural wood creates an atmosphere of inimitable comfort for passengers and the driver.

3. Renault Sandero

Third on the list of popularity is the hatchback subcompact Renault Sandero. A convenient, inexpensive car (the cost for January 2019 was from UAH 300,000), complete with a diesel and gasoline engine, has been popular since its appearance on the Ukrainian market.

Full-scale production began in 2007. The car has been brought to the Ukrainian market since 2008, after being shown at the Geneva Motor Show. The Renault Sandero concept was developed on the basis of the Logan, from which the car differs in a shortened wheelbase and a body shape more similar to the Renault Scenic.

The Sandero hatchback is only formally included in the Logan family, the configuration has a significantly reduced ground clearance, which is only 15 cm, the model has a minimum number of control options. In 2018, the Renault Sandero equipment in the Stepway model was restyled. Fans of a reliable hatchback in 2019 will be able to appreciate the stylish design, original headlights, and an upgraded power unit of the new configuration.

4. Renault Megane

Renault Megan appeared on Ukrainian roads in the late 90s - this small family car replaced the Renault 19 and immediately became a favorite in its segment. The most popular are Megan in the station wagon and hatchback.

This car is the choice of experienced drivers - Megan demonstrates first-class driving characteristics both in city driving and on country roads.

For the European market, Renault Megane is available in an extensive line of gasoline engines (from 100 to 180 hp). Hatchbacks for the Ukrainian and Russian markets are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, or a four-speed automatic transmission with a 1.6 and 2 liter power unit.

The third generation Megane comes with new tuning elements for the power steering and a steel crankcase.

5. Renault Fluence

A compact concept car that, since its release in 2009, began to crowd out Renault Megan in the sedan body. Many motorists, having tried a new car, began to sell the Megan sedan and switch to an updated version of the Renault Fluence.

The first sales in Ukraine began in 2010. Motorists were offered configurations with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, a year later Renault Fluence was presented with a 2-liter engine.

The first update took place in December 2012 - the public saw the updated interior design and new body elements. The popularity of the car on Ukrainian roads has slightly decreased - in 2013, only a few dozen restyled versions were sold.

By 2009, a fully electric sedan version of the Renault Fluence was developed. In Ukraine, the electric vehicle market is developing rather slowly. There are many who want to buy an eco-car, but the lack of appropriate infrastructure, charging points, parking lots, etc., does not allow considering the electric version of Fluence Z.E. demanded and popular.

6. Renault Captur

Another popular model of the French manufacturer is Renault Captur. For 2017-2018, car sales in the Ukrainian market amounted to 15%. The Kaptur debut took place in 2013, it was positioned as an intermediate model between the traditional crossover and the hatchback.

In fact, the Renault Captur mini crossover is one of the more spacious versions of the front-wheel drive compact Clio 4.

A comfortable five-seater car demonstrates high driving qualities both on rough terrain and in the city. Minimum fuel consumption and cheap repairs are the main advantages of Kaptur. The high roof allows five adults to comfortably sit in the cabin, the rear seats are longitudinally adjustable.

7. Renault Koleos

The seven most popular Renault cars in Ukraine are closed by the Renault Koleos model, whose debut on the Eastern European market failed in 2014. Only with the advent of the second generation Koleos, Ukrainians began to pay attention to this crossover. The price for a new Koleos starts at 800 thousand hryvnia (2,400,000 rubles) - this is quite expensive, although the cost is fully justified by the driving characteristics and power equipment of the car.

It is the price that puts the Koleos in last place in popularity - sales of this model accounted for only 0.9% of all Renault sales in 2018.

In 2018, Renault Koleos has undergone some exterior innovations - the size of the front fenders, the radiator grille, the optics have received rounded shapes. The lower body kits give the 2018 equipment austerity and solidity. Under the hood is a two-liter 144 hp petrol unit. On the Ukrainian market, Koleos is available only in the petrol version of the power unit.
