A novelty in the automotive industry always attracts attention, be it a prototype or just an updated model. But more attention is always paid to serial novelties. One such example was the new Renault Alaskan pickup, presented in the spring of 2016 at an exhibition in Geneva. It is based on a platform from the latest generation Nissan Navara already known to us.

Exterior of a pickup truck Alaskan 2017

Alaskan was first introduced on the last day of June, before that there were rumors that the pickup would be raw and require a lot of improvements. But as it turned out, the opposite is true, a very nice Renault Alaskan 2017 pickup, both from the outside and inside, attracted many potential future buyers.

Externally, especially in front, the Alaskan pickup resembles the Nissan Navara NP3000 on the basis of which it is built. But other parts are taken a little from each already known Renault car. The grille and headlights are more reminiscent of the Renault Espace, but with more strict shapes.

The Alaskan radiator grille is made of strips with holes, narrower at the bottom and long at the top, along the entire bottom, emphasized by a chrome strip. In the very center of the grille, making a little recess on the hood, the designers placed a large Renault emblem. The front optics are made in the modern style of Renault. It is based on LED technology, and daytime running lights are integrated along the outer contour. This design can be found already in the well-known Talisman, Clio and others.

The lower part of the Alaskan under the optics is occupied by a bumper, in many ways resembles the design of the Nissan Navara. On the sides, as befits a pickup, there are foglights with chrome edging. At the bottom, the bumper is accentuated by a chrome guard, with a small grille above it for additional engine airflow, which will be black for the base trim. The hood of the pickup, like in Navara, is more curved towards the middle and raised on the sides, this makes the Renault Alaskan a strict and at the same time attractive car.

The side of the Renault Alaskan is made in the classic pickup style. The arches of the front and rear fenders are convex, which indicates the increased cross-country ability of the car. American pickups can be found with two, four or one and a half doors. European versions of pickups in most cases have four doors, and the car is designed for five seats together with the driver.

On the front fender of the Renault Alaskan, at the top, the designers placed an emblem with the engine and model markings. Rumor has it that this may be similar to the Ford emblems on pickups, and this is an indicator that more than one generation of such a pickup is planned to be released in the future.

The lower part, on the side, is emphasized by two steps (side steps). The body of the Renault Alaskan is capable of accommodating and lifting 1000 kg. Probably, the disadvantage of the body can be considered the fact that a considerable side part is occupied by the wings inside the body, they will also interfere with the loading of oversized cargo. But still, the volume is enough for the carriage of a small cargo.

The side part is decorated with the inscription 4WD or 2WD, this is the first indicator of what the drive of the pickup will be. The rear door (cover) of the body is thought out so that it can easily withstand a short-term load. A handle was placed in its upper part, just below the company logo with the Alaskan model marking under it. The rear bumper is typical for pickups, made in the form of a step, so that you can easily get into the body without opening the lid.

On the sides, the bumper is decorated with chrome trims. The rear optics are located at the end of the rear fenders, as standard they will be based on halogen bulbs. In the maximum configuration of Renault Alaskan, optics based on LEDs will be installed.

With such exterior characteristics, the pickup turned out to be attractive and practical. The cab is installed separately from the body, the body can be viewed from the cab through an additional glass, a stop repeater and a radio antenna were installed above it. It is not hard to understand that the Renault Alaskan roof will be strict without additional innovations. Stiffeners behind and flat in the front, a sunroof will be installed in the maximum configuration, but not a panoramic roof. The longitudinal rails will allow you to install an additional roof rack or place an overall lightweight load.

The dimensions of the new Renault Alaskan are:

  • length - 5260 mm.;
  • width - 1850 mm .;
  • height - 1820 mm .;
  • wheelbase 3150 mm.;
  • ground clearance - 230 mm.

Initially, all plans were built on the production of a full-fledged cab, with 4 doors (Double Cab), but plans are not ruled out to produce two full-fledged doors and two doors (King Cab). Renault Alaskan will be fitted as standard on 16 ″ alloy wheels with 255 / 70R16 tires. Optionally, you can choose 18 ″ wheels with 255 / 60R18 tires.

The manufacturer has not yet named the body shades of Renault Alaskan, but it is known that it will be black, white, brown, gray and the color of wet asphalt. We can say that the car for the most part will be designed for off-road and stricter colors.

The inner world of the Alaskan pickup 2017

The interior of the new Renault Alaskan pickup truck turned out to be comfortable and thoughtful. The central panel in the middle is slightly stretched forward, in its upper part there is a compartment for glasses and similar trifles. At the end of the Alaskan panel there are two openings for air supply, and between them an electronic clock and an emergency parking button. An audio system will be installed in the center of the standard equipment panel, in more advanced trim levels a 7 "color display. The display will display images from surveillance cameras, navigation maps and other information about the condition of the car. Below the display, the designers have placed a climate control panel and heated seat controls. Below there are several types of chargers, you can recharge from USB, from a 12V cigarette lighter or a standard outlet. From the display to the gear lever, as well as along the entire perimeter of the Renault Alaskan interior, there are plastic inserts in standard models or wood for maximum configurations.

The engine Start / Stop button was located between the display and the dashboard, which indicates the presence of keyless access to the car. On the right and left ends of the panel, there are circular air vents, underneath are small ashtrays.

The Renault Alaskan dashboard is simple, but as convenient as possible for off-road driving. On the right is the speedometer, on the left is the tachometer, the designers have divided them with a small color 5 ″ TFT display, which displays information about the status of the engine, the distance traveled and the fuel level. The steering wheel is standard for Renault cars, three spokes, with control buttons on the top two spokes. To the left of the steering wheel are buttons for opening the tank, adjusting the light and controlling security systems.

For the front and rear passengers of the Alaskan pickup, auxiliary handles are located on the racks according to all the rules, for a comfortable fit into the cabin, after all, the pickup is higher than the usual sedan.

The interior of the cabin itself can be made in black or gray; for maximum trim levels, a white version will be available. The Alaskan interior will be finished in fabric or leather with contrasting contour stitching. On a pleasant note, the presence of power accessories, including a dividing glass between the body and the cab, can be noted. Power mirrors, which can also be folded if necessary.

In general, the interior turned out to be strict, without unnecessary details, but with the maximum set of tools for a variety of situations.

Security of the new Alaskan 2017

Car safety should always be at its best, especially when it comes to SUVs or pickups. Renault Alaskan's security systems include ABS, EBD and ESP. Auxiliary systems can be considered to control the tilt of the pickup when driving off-road.

In the maximum trim levels of the Renault Alaskan, downhill launch control and suspension control systems will be installed. Active systems will help protect the driver from various unpleasant situations. The blind spot monitoring system will warn about a car that is not visible in the mirrors. Surround cameras will show the complete picture around the Alaskan pickup.

Bluetooth technology will allow you to connect your phone or other smart device to the vehicle's on-board system. Starting with the basic Alaskan configuration, driver and passenger airbags are installed, for maximum configurations, side airbags will be installed to protect against side impact.

It cannot be said that the new Renault Alaskan is equipped with security systems as much as possible, but the most important ones are still installed.

Alaskan variety and cost

So far, we only know about the form factor of the Double Cab, as in the images above, but the King Cab will be presented in the near future, and this does not exclude the appearance of the Crew Cab or Super Cab options.

Speaking about the fact that the Renault Alaskan base was taken from the Nissan Navara 3, we can roughly talk about the price. According to preliminary data, the price of new items will be about $ 29,000.

For Europe and Russia, sales are planned for early summer next year. It is not known for certain what configurations of Renault Alaskan and what type of cockpit will initially be presented in Russia first.
